New rooms and new facilities

Work is due to start refurbishing St Mary's Community Hall in the Spring of 2013 following a successful application to the Big Lottery's Reaching Communities Fund. Below are some photos of the Hall today which will be equipped with modern facilities in what will be Horden's Centennial Centre...

The office area today will become a fitness suite with treadmills, rowing machines and other cardivascular machines.  The area next to the office will be given a new area which will act as the centre's resource hub; a place for agenices to hotdesk and for residents to access printers, photocopier, fax and other office facilities.  We hope that by year two, the project will be able to employ a centre co-ordinator to work with our dedicated volunteers and trustees.

The kitchen will be given a makeover to create a coffee lounge with a mix of seating for an internet cafe, coffee mornings, informal meetings and refreshments - a warm and welcome place for residents to meet and socialise while accessing eveything else the centre will have to offer.

The main Hall which will be equipped with facilities for conferences, performances, functions and fundraising events.  New heating and lighting will create a centre which is warm and welcoming.  The ceiling will be lowered to create a new first floor with lift access to two new meeting spaces and and interview room.

Unused green space will see a parking area created with attractive hard landscaping and a new entrance from Seventh Street.  Lighting, paving and signage will give the centre an external makeover.  We hope additional funding can be secured to put solar panels on the roof which would make the building more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
